Imogen Heap Interview
10 August 2009 | doiank

It’s been almost four years since English singer/songwriter Imogen Heapreleased her second solo album, Speak for Yourself. Having previously hit it big with Frou Frou (her duo with producer Guy Sigsworth) and the song “Let Go,” which was made famous in the movie Garden StateSpeak for Yourself showed that Heap was not only a gifted songwriter but a talented producer and businesswoman — the album was released on her own label, Megaphonic, with distribution by Sony BMG.
After two years of non-stop touring for Speak for Yourself, Heap wrote some songs in Hawaii, built her own studio in London, collaborated with a variety of artists including Chris Corner from IAMXBlue OctoberTemposhark and Josh Groban — and, oh yeah, recorded and produced her third record, Ellipse, which is due out August 25. You would think the multi-talented multi-instrumentalist might be content to sit back and relax now that the album is finished, but slowing down doesn’t seem to be something that comes naturally to Heap.
In between press dates for Ellipse and planning her upcoming tour, Heap has been hosting “Heap Tweet Ups,” where she hangs out with some of her 800,000 Twitter followers at a local bar, plays them the new album…and oftentimes buys a round of drinks. It’s this sort ingenuity, as well as her lively spirit and melodic gifts, that make Ms. Imogen Heap such a compelling figure.
Heap recently sat down with ShockHound for an exclusive chat about her creative process, her "bad body double" and the therapeutic aspects of Twitter.
