Baietii de la Despised Icon revin cu un material nou intitulat “Day of mourning”- mai brutal, mai rapid si mai tehnic decat albumul anterior “The ills of modern man”.

Noua piese care te fac sa-ti misti fundul de pe scaun si sa faci un moshpit de unul singur in camera, sau in cel mai bun caz, cu inca cativa tovarasi.

 

Albumul incepe cu piesa “Les Temps Changent” (in traducere ar fi : timpurile se schimba).

Deja din secunda 25 incep breakdown-urile. Ai impresia ca Despised Icon canta chiar in fata ta.

Dupa o prima ascultare incep sa se remarce diferentele dintre Day of mourning si The ills of modern man.

Ca sa-ti dai seama de ce sunt in stare baietii din Montreal, trebuie ascultata piesa MVP.

O demonstratie in forta in care riff-urile lui Eric Jarrin  care in combinatie cu bateria lui Alex Pelletier si cu vocalurile lui Alexandre Erian si a lui Steve Marois definesc aceasta masinarie de facut muzica extrema.

Daca iei toate riff-urile canadienilor si le demontezi, se poate observa ca toate sunt aproapte asemantoare, desi cand asculti o piesa in intregime nu prea realizezi lucrul acesta.

Aici intervine aceasta abilitatea de a pozitiona aceste riff-uri, de a le schimba ordinea astfel incat piesele sa nu devina monotone (sentiment pe care l-am avut cand am asculat The ills of modern man), plus adaugarea unor pasaje tehnice, gen breakdown-uri, bridge-uri etc . Aceste caracteristici se regasesc in “All for nothing”,”Eulogy”,”Made of glass”,”Black Lungs”,”Diva of Disgust” si in ”Entre et le bien et le mal” ).

O chestie interesanta este faptul ca nu mai apar “pig squeal-urile” - tipice pentru primele trei albume .

 

In ultima piesa se schimba tiparul.  Pot sa spun ca e prima data cand aud o piesa semnata Despised icon, care in proportie de 80% are un tempo scazut, majoritatea pieselor avand un tempo foarte ridicat.

Inceputul  piesei imi aminteste de “The ones we left behind” de la All shall perish.

Cam pe la minutul 2:33 se face trecerea la partea mai “metal”. Schimbarea tiparului are loc la tobe, la chitara si la vocal; apare un semi-breakdown. De remarcat este fapul ca tempo-ul ramane aproape constant..

 

Nu au lipsit nici pinch-urile caracteristice Despised Icon care, deasemenea se regasesc si pe albumele anterioare.

Gang vocals-urile au reprezentat si ele o caramida  la “constructia” acestui album, “construind” alaturi de cei de la D.I componentii unor formatii precum Beneath the massacre, Cryptopsy si Ion Dissonance.

Totusi, admir foarte mult tehnicitatea, viteza si precizia bateristului Alex Pelletier.

 

Baietii acestia, impreuna cu cei de la Animosity, All shall perish si Suicide Silence & Co. folosesc principiul yin si yang, adica imbina riff-urile rapide cu breakdown-urile, iesind un amestec care se numeste mai mult sau mai putin DEATHCORE!

 

Day of mourning este un album bine lucrat, bine structurat, care degaja o energie numai buna pentru un moshpit.

Asadar, pentru mine este clar: les temps changent pentru acesti baieti.

“Saturn” definitely takes it to a different dimension, spacey and dark, big room late-night techno oozes energy ….pulsating beats with some distorted treatment which is creating a twister of a track that carries some serious power!

 

“Orb Hunt” is maybe a bit more delicate but just as “extra-dimensional” as “Saturn, approaching a more techy side which still seems to be preparing you for a space trip … early techy techno number!

"We’re already looking at our 10th release, and most probably our best and biggest to date considering all the amazing artists involved in it. Its been quite a journey to come to an end, but it was all well worth it.
We are more than happy to welcome Estroe, Steve Rachmad and Luciano Pizzella to our ever growing family!


Having a touch of old school on the original, we find Estroe constructing around a catchy and hypnotic arrangement of chords and melodies . The result is an excellent melodic, a bit dark journey with plenty of groove and rhythm which will go well on any floor!

Steve Rachmad cant do wrong….utilizing the key elements of the original with a keen focus on swing and groove, all this rework comes as a perfect builder which gets infectious from the beginning through the end… the groove is stripped back giving the melodies a feeling of space and power, in addition with a subtle funk which makes this a total winner!

Dinamoe ( Rico Puestel ) comes again to showcase his innovative ideas, creating an eclectic sound that will surprise everyone! A warm and organic drum arrangement, mixed up with a groovy bassline makes it extremely danceable and suitable for any sort of dancefloor.

Luciano Pizzella is testing his funkiness and groove on the last remix. Using several instruments from the original, this approach raises the energy levels considerably, leading it to some big room moments …driven by pumping techno and a warm groove, this is set to be on fire!

Intotdeauna a existat o mare prapastie intre lucrurile vechi si noi. Si nu ma refer la conflictele dintre generatii sau chestii de genul. Nu. Se pare ca, desi traim in epoca inovatiei, devenim "alergici" la ce e nou. Cum am ajuns la concluzia asta? E simplu. Tot mai des auzim/spunem/gandim ca "atunci" era mai bine/mai frumos/mai interesant ca "acum". De ce localul X arata mai bine mai inainte? De ce noul album al formatiei Y nu se ridica la nivelul asteptarilor noastre? De ce noul solist e mai putin bun decat cel vechi? De ce vara trecuta a fost mai frumoasa ca vara asta? DE ce regretam mereu "good ol` times?". Am ajuns oare la un nivel unde suntem incapabili sa mai acceptam ceva nou? Nu ne mai putem acomoda asa usor? Adica pe masura ce tehnologia evolueaza... creierul uman se retrage? Stiu ca intrebarile astea sunt retorice, dar noi chiar am uitat sa pretuim prezentul, viitorul, plangand din ce in ce mai mult trecutul si ceea ce a fost odata?
