Biografie Paul Oakenfold

Nascut in Londra, pe 30 august 1963, Paul Oakenfold si-a inceput cariera muzicala intr-un bar din Covent Garden. La inceputul anilor 80 decide ca New York este locul perfect pentru muzica sa si astfel ajunge la Arista Records. Intors in Londra, Paul devine una dintre autoritatile din Anglia in materie de hip-hop.

Vara anului 1985 si-o petrece in cluburile din Ibiza. El este unul dintre cei responsabili pentru ceea ce este Ibiza azi - paradisul clubberilor. La doi ani dupa prima sa vizita in Ibiza revine insotit de Trevor Fung, Nicky Holloway, Ian St Paul, Danny Rampling si Johnny Walker pentru a-si sarbatori ziua de nastere, iar aceasta vizita le schimba definitiv cursul carierei. Intors in Anglia, Paul il roaga pe proprietarul clubului The Project din Streatham sa-l lase sa organizeze o petrecere after-hours - "Ibiza reunion". Petrecerea a avut un mare succes si a condus la organizarea primei mari nopti de acid house din Anglia: Spectrum la Heaven in Charing Cross.

Cariera sa de producator a inceput in 1988 sub numele Electra, lucrand cu Steve Osborne. Pana in 1990, prin munca sa la Wrote For Luck si Hallelujah (de pe EP-ul Madchester Rave On), Paul a creat doua dintre piesele de rezistenta ale scenei indie-dance, un hibrid care explica acid house-ul pentru tinerii crescuti in spiritul sunetelor de ghitara, bass si tobe. Paul a fost unul dintre DJii invitati la evenimentul Spike Island de la The Stone Roses, iar pentru munca sa la LP-ul Pills, Thrills And Bellyaches a castigat Brit Award for Best Producer in 1991.

Sub numele de Perfecto, impreuna cu Steve Osborne, a facut un mix dupa Even Better Than The Real Thing al celor de la U2, track-ul obtinand inca de la lansare o pozitie mai buna in topuri decat melodia originala, sugerand dezvoltarea muzicii dance.

In ultima decada a anilor 90, Paul a fost votat #1 DJ din lume de catre cititorii renumitei DJ Magazine si a putut auzi numele "Oakey!" strigat de public in cluburi si la petrecerile in aer liber in toate colturile globului.

Ca producator, Paul continua sa lanseze atat track-uri proprii, cat si remix-uri, in timp ce Perfecto ajunge un renumit label, care reprezinta artisti diversi ca Arthur Baker, Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero si Timo Maas. Tot el a fost desemnat sa scrie si sa produca tema de la renumitul show Big Brother, sub numele Element 4, impreuna cu Andy Gray.

Sfarsitul mileniului il gaseste in SUA, lansand albumul "Perfecto Presents Another World" si realizand coloana sonora a filmului "Swordfish", ajungand direct pe locul I in "US New Artist Chart". Iar asta nu este tot...remixeaza, la cererea Madonnei, melodia "What It Feels Like For A Girl" si il insoteste pe Moby intr-un turneu inceput pe 11 iulie in Atlanta, si continuat prin fiecare stat american pana in California. Ca semn de recunoastere mondiala, revista Dj Magazine il plaseaza, prin voturile cititorilor, pe locul 2 in "Top 100 Best Djs".

Putini DJi din lume sunt capabili sa atraga fervoarea si sa creeze delirul pe care Paul il poate produce in randul publicului - tot ceea ce trebuie sa faci este sa fii acolo ca sa simti incarcatura electrica din atmosfera.... Acest om traieste, respira si se hraneste din arta sa.
